The 16th SEOM-Canada Consultation and the 10th SEOM-Hong Kong (China) Consultation were held in Siem Reap, Cambodia on 7 August 2022 and Dr. Wah Wah Maung, Permanent Secretary for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and SEOM Lead, participated in the Meetings.
The Meetings were attended by the Senior Economic Officials from ASEAN Member States, Canada, Hong Kong (China) and the officials from ASEAN Secretariat. The Meetings were co-chaired by Mr. Rath Saravuth, Director-General of International Trade, Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia and Senior Economic Officials from the respective dialogue partners.
During the 16th SEOM-Canada consultation, the Senior Economic Officials discussed the progress of implementation of 2021-2025 Work Plan to Implement the ASEAN-Canada Joint Declaration on Trade and Investment (JDTI), the arrangements for the 1st Trade Negotiation Committee Meeting for the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement and its subsequent meetings scheduled in August 2022 and possible economic deliverables for the 11th AEM-Canada Consultation scheduled in September 2022.
In the afternoon, the 10th SEOM-Hong Kong (China) Consultation was held and the Senior Economic Officials discussed the matters pertaining to the implementation of ASEAN-Hong Kong (China) Free Trade Agreement (AHKFTA) and ASEAN-Hong Kong (China) Investment Agreement (AHKIA) and ASEAN- Hong Kong (China) economic cooperation, and possible economic deliverables for the 6th AEM- Hong Kong (China) Consultation which will be held in September 2022.
During the meeting, the Permanent Secretary expressed appreciation to Hong Kong (China) for the support of ECOTECH projects under the AHKFTA ECOTECH Work Programme. She also updated the meeting on the completion of transposition of Tariff Reduction Schedule of Myanmar in HS 2022 and the progress of implementation of the project, namely “Hong Kong (China) – CLMV online investment forum”.
Together with the Permanent Secretary, the Senior Officials from Foreign Economic Relations Department also joined the Meetings.
