Diplomatic Relations between Myanmar and France Republic

1.   Diplomatic relations between Myanmar and France Republic has been started on 28th February 1948. France has been providing development assistances (Grant and Loan) to   Myanmar through the channels of French Development Agency (AFD), Direct Contribution of French Embassy in Yangon, and contribution to regional projects of international organizations.

Cooperation with AFD

 2.  The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the development cooperation between Myanmar and AFD was signed by Director General of Foreign Economic Relations Department and Mr. Jean Yves Grosclaude, Chief Operating Officer, AFD on 22nd March 2013.

3.   According to the MoU, AFD agreed to cooperate with Myanmar mainly on the areas; rural development, food security and agricultural sector development, Health sector development, Infrastructure development based on the water and sanitation system.

Agreement between Myanmar and France

4.   Agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the French Republic on the Establishment and Activities of The Agence Francaise de Developpement and Proparco in Myanmar was singed by Union Minister for former National Planning and Economic Development and H.E Mrs Annick GIRARDIN, French Minister of State for Development and Francophony on 5th December 2014.

5.  Besides, Financing Agreements for technical assistances (FERC-I) and (FERC-II) between Agence Francaise de Developpement (AFD) and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar were signed by Director General, Foreign Economic Relations Department and Country Director for Myanmar, AFD on 5th December 2014 and 11th June 2018 respectively with the aim to support studies and technical assistance for the projects executed by the financing of AFD in Myanmar.
