Diplomatic Relations between Myanmar and Germany

1.    Since 1954 August 3, the diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Germany has been   started. German Federal Republic is granting development assistances to Myanmar through German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany

2.     Agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany regarding Development Cooperation was signed by former Deputy Minister for Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development and German Ambassador to Myanmar on 2nd April 2015. According to the agreement, German Development Cooperation (GIZ), Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR), German Development Bank (KfW) and National Metrology Institute (PTB) are implementing development projects in Myanmar with the collaboration of concerned ministries since 2012.

Priority areas for Myanmar

3.   German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) mainly focus on two main areas; Sustainable Economic Development and Rural Development with the focusing on Shan State in Myanmar.

German’s annual assistances to Myanmar

4.    German government implemented technical assistance projects in Myanmar by the supporting of euro 12.5 million, technical and financial assistances by the amount of euro 34.3 million, euro 32.2 million, euro 37.8 million, euro 50.088 million in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and financial assistance by euro 5 million in 2017 were been provided respectively.
