Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Senior Economic Official, Dr. Wah Wah Maung attended the 39th SEOM-Plus Three Consultation which was held in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The Meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Rath Saravuth, Director General, International Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Cambodia, Mr. Yu Xiang, Deputy Director General, Ministry of Commerce of P.R.China, Mr. Nobuo Kiriyama, Deputy Director-General for Trade Policy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan and Mr. Kim Jong Hul, Director General Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) of the Republic of Korea. The Meeting was attended by the Senior Economic Officials of ASEAN and the representatives of ASEAN Secretariat.
The East Asia Business Council (EABC) briefed on the progress of EABC activities and their key recommendations to ensure that East Asia will come out stronger, more integrated and globally competitive for the post COVID-19 pandemic. The Meeting welcomed the initiatives and recommendations of EABC.
At the Meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Wah Wah Maung congratulated to the EABC for the establishment of the RCEP Business Advisory Council (RBAC) under the ambit of the EABC on 26 January 2022. The Permanent Secretary encouraged the Countries that have not ratified RCEP with Myanmar to ratify early to reap full benefits of RCEP from Business sector of the East Asia Region.
The Meeting noted the progress of implementation of the ASEAN Plus Three Economic Cooperation Work Programme 2021-2022 and endorsed the ASEAN Plus Three Economic Cooperation Work Programme 2023-2024. The Meeting further noted the progress of implementation of the ASEAN Plus Three Plan of Action on Mitigating the Economic Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic and discussed the possible deliverables of the 25th AEM Plus Three Consultation which will be held in September 2022.
Together with the Permanent Secretary, the Senior Officials from Foreign Economic Relations Department also joined the Meeting.
