The signing ceremony for five Memoranda of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Government of the Republic of India under Quick Impact Projects (QIP) was held at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Nay Pyi Taw on 14th October 2024.

                The ceremony was attended by H.E. Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Deputy Ministers from relevant Ministries, senior officials and His Excellency Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, the Deputy Chief of Mission, Mr. Ashish Sharma, and the representatives from the Embassy of India.

                In the ceremony, the “Memorandum of Understanding for ‘Dryer and Dryer’s house for Agriculture Development and Farmer Welfare”, the “Memorandum of Understanding for the Implementation of ACARE knowledge repository”, the “Memorandum of Understanding for Weaving and Vocational sector Development Project under Saunder Weaving and Educational Institute in Amarapura, Mandalay Region”, the “Memorandum of Understanding for Constructing a one-story building for the Girls Training School in Mandalay Region” and the “Memorandum of Understanding for ‘Establishment of Yangon Region’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for Natural Disaster Management” were signed by Directors General and Rector from the relevant Ministries and Mr. Ashish Sharma, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India.

                The Indian Government will grant 250,000 USD and this grant will contribute to ensure the efficient operation of the rice mill within the rice bio-park and to enhance the livelihoods of rice farming communities by signing and implementing the “Memorandum of Understanding for ‘Dryer and Dryer’s house for Agriculture Development and Farmer Welfare”, to create an intranet-based knowledge repository to centralize research data, publications, datasets by signing and implementing the “Memorandum of Understanding for the Implementation of ACARE knowledge repository”, to enhance skills of the teachers from weaving and vocational institute by signing and implementing the “Memorandum of Understanding for Weaving and Vocational sector Development Project under Saunder Weaving and Educational Institute in Amarapura, Mandalay Region”, to promote the living standard of the children by signing and implementing the “Memorandum of Understanding for Constructing a one-story building for the Girls Training School in Mandalay Region”, and to serve as a logistics hub for receiving international humanitarian assistance, thereby supporting the National Disaster Management Center in responding to large-scale disasters, given Yangon’s role as a major international entry point for Myanmar by sea and air by signing and implementing the “Memorandum of Understanding for ‘Establishment of Yangon Region’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for Natural Disaster Management”. To ensure successful implementation of the projects, Joint Project Monitoring Committees (JPMC) have been already organized to facilitate for the progress of the projects.

                The Quick Impact Projects are implemented under the Framework Agreement on Quick Impact Projects (QIPs), signed between the Government of Myanmar and the Government of India. The Quick Impact Project (QIP) allocates 50,000 USD per project. Last year three projects were implemented, and additional QIP projects are being negotiated with the Indian Government to further support Myanmar’s socio-economic development.
