The third meeting of the Investment Promotion Committee (IPC) led by the Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and Chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) U Thaung Tun was held via video conference today.
The meeting was attended by the members of Investment Promotion Committee (IPC), Deputy Ministers U Aung Hla Tun, U Kyaw Myo, U Khin Maung Win, U Aung Htoo, U Win Maw Tun, Dr. Mya Lay Sein, U Set Aung, U Tin Latt and Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries concerned as well as the Secretary of the IPC, members of the five Task forces and observers from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Union Minister U Thaung Tun noted the important role of the IPC and its five taskforces. He stressed the need to respond effectively to the impact of Covid-19 by establishing industrial zones, promoting investment in agro-based industries which support the whole supply chain, health-related product manufacturing, and the digitization of the economy. He also underlined the need to review the Myanmar Investment Promotion Plan (MIPP) in the coming year in light of the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.
U Thant Sin Lwin, Director General of DICA and Secretary of the IPC briefed the committee on the activities undertaken and the work programme for the year ahead.
The leaders of the five task forces presented progress reports of the Annual Activities Plan. The presentations were followed by discussions by the IPC members.
A total of 70 IPC members and representatives of ministries concerned participated in the virtual meeting.
