Myanmar Delegation led by U Thaung Tun, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and Chairman of the Myanmar Investment Commission, attended the Myanmar Investment Seminar for Korean SMEs and Korean Fintech Week 2019 held in Seoul, Korea, on 22-24 May 2019. The forum was organized by the Industrial Bank of Korea and Financial Services Commission with the aim to serve as a platform for promoting Myanmar as an investment destination and to provide information on the investment opportunities in Myanmar, particularly for small and medium enterprises. The forum was attended by over 280 representatives of Korean SMEs.
At the inaugural session, Union Minister and Chairman of Myanmar Investment Commission U Thaung Tun and Chairman and CEO of Industrial Bank of Korea-IBK Mr. Kim, Do-Jin delivered the opening remarks. The Union Minister, in his address, emphasized the importance of SMEs in promoting development. He also stressed the need for closer cooperation in bilateral trade and investment between the countries to further enhance economic ties. He invited Korea companies to invest in Myanmar.
While in Seoul, the Union Minister had meetings with the Chairman and CEO of Industrial Bank of Korea-IBK Mr. Kim, Do-Jin, the President of Posco C&C Mr. Daeryong Ha and Managing Director of ASEAN-Korea Friendship Association Mr. Baek Sungki separately and discussed matters relating to investment promotion.
The Myanmar delegation also visited IBK Changgong Financial Center and Guro Digital Industrial Complex.
The Union Minister was accompanied by the Chairman of UMFCCI U Zaw Min Win, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Industry U Ko Ko Lwin, and delegates from Directorate of Investment and Company Administration and Department of Small and Medium Enterprise Development. The Union Minister and the Myanmar delegation arrived Yangon on 24 May 2019.
