Myanmar Delegation led by Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, U Thaung Tun attends the 4th Belt and Road Summit which will be held from 11th to 12th September at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.

The opening session of the 4th Belt and Road Summit was held in the morning of 11th September 2019. Dr Peter K N Lam, Chairman of Hong Kong Trade Development Council delivered the opening address and Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Cheif Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region spoke words of welcome.

At the opening session, Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Cheif Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region said as this year's Summit theme – "Creating and Realising Opportunities" – suggests, Hong Kong is perfectly positioned to serve as the gateway to the Belt and Road and its manifold prospects and possibilities. Inspired by the promise of the Belt and Road, we have adopted a whole-government, five-pronged strategy, covering enhancing policy co-ordination, fully realising Hong Kong's unique advantages, maximising Hong Kong's position as a professional services hub, establishing partnerships and collaboration, and promoting Hong Kong's project participation.

The event was attended by nearly 5,000 participants including senior government officials, business leaders and investors from over 60 countries and regions. 

The Union Minister and delegation will also attend Luncheon Ministrial Panel and  Belt and Road ASEAN Night 2019.

Union Minister wil participate as panelist at the Luncheon Ministrial Panel and discuss the investment opportunities of Myanmar to the attendee from 60 countries in order to promote investment in Myanmar.

During the Summit, Union Minister will have courtesy call with Mrs Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR and Mr Edward Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR to enhance the economic cooperation between Myanmar and Hong Kong SAR.
