The meeting (1/2021) of Working Committee to address the impact of COVID-19 on the country’s economy was held this afternoon.

The meeting was chaired by U Aung Naing Oo, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations. Members of the working committee Deputy Ministers, from Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry and Ministry of Commence, Deputy Governor ofthe Central Bank of Myanmar, and representatives of the Ministries concerned took part in the meeting.

In the meeting, the Union Minister highlighted to the continue implementation of the ongoing activities in tackling the hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he underscored that the Committee will take the measures leading to economic recovery rather than the relief measures undertaken in the past. In doing so, the Committee will take an immediate action to review the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP) and Myanmar Economic Recovery and Reform Plan (MERRP) for more realistic outcome. In addition, the Committee will draw up necessary action plan and the restructuring of the Task Force accordingly.

In the meeting, the Minister stressed the need of financial and regulatory reform measures to achieve the economic recovery in the country. Moreover, he highlighted that the Committee will work closely with governments of States and Regions and private sector.

The meeting discussed matters relating to measures to address the negative impacts of the COVID-19 and current situation on the country’s economy and other related matters reported to the Working Committee.

The meeting focus further measures and process of COVID-19 Fund to proceed expeditiously.
