Bilateral Cooperation between Myanmar and Thailand
Commencement of Diplomatic Relations
1. Diplomatic relations between Myanmar and Thailand has been established since 24 August 1948 and mutual state visits have increased the existing relationship between the two countries.
The Consultation on 3-year Myanmar-Thailand Development Cooperation Programme (2019-2021) (Draft)
2. The Consultation on 3-year Myanmar-Thailand Development Cooperation Programme (2019-2021) was held from 25-2-2019 to 27-2-2019 in Nay Pyi Taw to improve the cooperation between the two countries. In the Meeting both sides discussed the objectives, strategies, projects, working plans, projects sites, beneficial outcomes with regards to five sectors as Agriculture, Education, Public Health, Economic and Financial and Social Development Sector. The meeting was also discussed with the concerned ministries about the separate projects to be implemented in states and regions (Kayin, Mon, Rakhine, Tanintharyi).
3. Myanmar in cooperation with Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), it is in the negotiating process for sustainable development in Kayin, Mon, Rakhine State and Tanintharyi Regions to establish Model Villages and Training schools in adjacent villages with Thai border under sustainable community development based on Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP). At the present, Sustainable Community Development project surveys based on SEP was conducted in Lay Kay Kaw Village, Myawaddy and Ma Gyi Kyun Village, Hpa-an, Kayin State.
NEDA Loan Projects
4. Loan Agreement on the project implementation on Water Supply and Solid Waste Management in Hpa-an and Myawaddy, Kayin State with the loan amount USD 24.3 million (777.77 million in Baht) from Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA) was signed on 24 February, 2020.
5. Ministry of Construction is coordinating the implementation of upgrading two way road project, from Thai border Kanchanaburi to Dawei Special Economic Zone, by NEDA loan.
