National Consultations of Myanmar on formulation of the Implementation Plan of the Framework for CLMV Development, organized by Mekong Institute, was virtually held at 12:30 PM on 1 December 2021. At the Consultations, Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekam, Executive Director of Mekong Institute, delivered the opening remark and Dr. Wah Wah Maung, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, CLMV Senior Economic Official Lead for Myanmar, delivered the welcome remark. Focal Person from respective Ministries, private sector and related organizations joined from their respective workplaces.
The representatives of Mekong Institute (MI) led by Mr. Suriyan Vichitlekarn briefed the project on formulation of the Implementation Plan of Framework for CLMV Development including the progress of the project and way forward.
Then, the National Consultations continued with four simultaneous breakout sessions based on four key areas of CLMV Development Framework: transportation and facilitation, tourism, agriculture and food and electricity. The focal persons from line agencies discussed and exchanged view on the respective areas.
Mekong Institute organized the National Consultations for Cambodia and Lao PDR and planned to hold the National Consultations for Vietnam soon. The first draft of Implementation Plan will be formulated based on the outcomes of the National Consultations and the second draft will be developed based on the outcomes of reginal workshop. And then, CLMV SEOM Leaders will finalize the Implementation Plan and it will be endorsed by CLMV Economic Ministers.  The Implementation Plan of the Framework for CLMV Development was targeted to finalize during 2021.
The Framework for CLMV Development aims to provide a unifying strategy for Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV) to work towards attaining the middle-income goal by 2030. The Implementation Plan of the Framework for CLMV Development is initiated during Myanmar’s chairmanship for CLMV Economic Cooperation in 2021.
