Myanmar Delegation led by Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Dr. Wah Wah Maung attended the 25th Ministerial Conference of Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) held on 8 December in Luang Prabang, Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

          At the Ministerial Retreat held in the morning of 8 December 2022, the matters regarding the task force on trade and investment and GMS Knowledge Network were frankly exchanged their views by the Union Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

          The Ministerial Plenary was held in the afternoon of 8 December with the theme of “Accelerating Economic Recovery to Expand 30 Years of GMS Achievements Toward Inclusive and Sustainable Development” and brief statements were delivered respectively by the Heads of Delegation (HODs) of the GMS countries and ADB Vice President at Opening Session.

          At the plenary session, the reports of the senior officials’ meeting, business council meeting and development partners’ meeting were presented by the chairs of the meetings respectively. The key deliverables; namely the new Regional Investment Framework (2023-2025), the Results Framework of the GMS Strategy 2030, GMS Gender Strategy, GMS Digital Economy Cooperation Initiatives as well as the Joint Ministerial Statement were endorsed by the HODs from the GMS member countries.

          These meetings were chaired by H.E Mr. Khamjane Vongphosy, Minister for Ministry of Planning and Investment, Lao PDR and co-chaired by Mr. Ahmed M. Saeed, Vice President for East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Asian Development Bank (ADB).

          The 25th GMS Ministerial Conference was attended by Ministers, Deputy Ministers, National Coordinators and Senior Officials from six GMS member countries (Cambodia, PR China, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam), the representatives from Development Partner Organizations and private sector as well as the representatives of ADB, in total nearly 150 participants.
