Dr. Wah Wah Maung, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, CLMV Senior Economic Official Lead for Myanmar, led the preparatory meeting for National Consultations on Formulation of the Implementation Plan of the Framework for CLMV Development which was held on 30th November, 2021 at the Office Building No (1), Nay Pyi Taw. The meeting was attended by Focal Person from respective Ministries, private sector and related organizations, and representatives from Foreign Economic Relations Department.
At the meeting, Dr. Wah Wah Maung explained the background of CLMV economic cooperation, formulation of the Framework for CLMV Development, priority areas of cooperation under the Framework and way forwards for formulation of the Implementation Plan of the Framework for CLMV Development.
The Framework for CLMV Development was endorsed by CLMV leaders at the 10th CLMV summit held on 9 December 2020. The Framework aims to provide a unifying strategy for Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV) to work towards attaining the middle-income goal by 2030.To achieve the objective of the Framework, the CLMV countries will focus on the areas of transportation and facilitation, logistic hub, internet backbones, digital readiness, financial services, strong legal institutions, competence workforce, access to electricity, sectors of agriculture and food, tourism with comparative advantages.
The implementation plan of Framework for CLMV Development will be formulated by conducting national consultations and regional workshop under the supervision of Mekong Institute. The implementation plan is expected to finalize at the end of December this year. The national consultations for Myanmar will be held on 1st December 2021, led by Mekong Institute.
The preparatory meeting was held for supporting national consultations. At the meeting, Permanent Secretary provided guidance to the Focal Person to work closely with Mekong Institute, ASEAN Secretariat, all stakeholders including private sector for timely finalization of implementation Plan of the CLMV Development Framework during Myanmar’s chairmanship for CLMV Economic Cooperation in 2021.
And then, the meeting participants exchanged views on the matters relating to formulation of implementation plan of Framework for CLMV Development and Permanent Secretary provided necessary guidance. The meeting concluded at 4:10 PM.
