On behalf of H.E. Dr. Kan Zaw, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Dr. Wah Wah Maung, Deputy Minister attended the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Special Meeting which was held on 1 September 2022 via video conference.

The Meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Pan Sorasak, Chair of ASEAN Economic Ministers, Ministry of Commerce, Kingdom of Cambodia and was attended by Economic Ministers and representatives from all ASEAN Member States, Secretary General of ASEAN and the officials.

At the Meeting, H.E. Dato Dr. Amin Liew Abdullah, Country Coordinator for ASEAN- Closer Economic Relations, Minister of Finance and Economy II, Ministry of Finance and Economy, Brunei Darussalam briefed the progress of the upgrade negotiation and facing challenges for the conclusion of upgrade negotiations of AANZFTA in September 2022. They exchanged views on the outstanding issues in the upgrade negotiations and also provided policy guidance for further discussion by the relevant committees. In addition, the disciplines to be complied by the negotiators in the negotiations were endorsed by the Ministers.

Together with the Deputy Minister, the Senior Officials from Foreign Economic Relations Department, Department of Trade and  Directorate of Investment and Company Administration also participated in the Meeting.
