Under the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation programme, Asian Development Bank (ADB) organized the 4th Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) via video conferencing at 8:30 AM in Nay Pyi Taw on 27 October 2020.

 

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Wang Zhongjing, Director General, and Ministry of Finance and co-chaired by Mr. Ramesh Subramaniam, Director General, Southeast Asia Department, ADB.

 

At the Meeting, ADB presented GMS COVID-19 Response and Recovery Plan, Final consideration of GMS Strategic Framework 2030, Study Report on “The Greater Mekong Subregion 2030 and Beyond: Integration, Upgrading, Cities, and Connectivity”, Third Progress Report of the Regional Investment Framework (RIF) 2022, draft SOM Chair’s report to the Ministers and final Joint Ministerial Statement. The Senior Officials were informed on the program and arrangements for the virtual 24th GMS Ministerial Conference which will be held on 4th November and on the status of preparations for the 7th GMS Summit which will be held in March, 2021. After that, the Senior Officials from GMS member countries reviewed and discussed on the presentations, and the arrangement on the coming events.

 

The meeting was attended by senior officials from six GMS member countries (Cambodia, PR China, Laos PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam), and ADB staff, in total over 70 participants. Myanmar delegates from ministries concerned led by Director General U Than Aung Kyaw, GMS National Coordinator, Foreign Economic Relations Department, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations participated this 4th SOM via video conference.
