The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MIFER) U Bharat Singh attended a Joint Session of the 13th Mekong-Japan Industry and Government Dialogue and the 1st Meeting of 2020 ASEAN Economic Ministers-METI Economic and Industrial Cooperation Committee (AMEICC) Working Group on West-East Corridor Development (WEC-WG) via video conference.
During the meeting, Japan emphasised making the Mekong Industrial Development Vision (MIDV) 2.0 sustainable for bringing about more resilient economic growth.
The Deputy Minister presented Myanmar’s three prioritised projects including a proposed feasibility study for upgrading railways and roads along the Myanmar-Thai border. He also discussed a standardisation programme that would foster greater competitiveness of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) that have been facing challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
