NAY PYI TAW - Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Bharat Singh today attended the 12th Mekong-Japan Economic Ministers Meeting via videoconference from office No (1).

During the meeting, the Ministers noted the vision of MIDV 2.0, highlighted by three main pillars of Connectivity, Digital Innovations and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the vision will be the solution for balanced development of the Mekong region and would contribute to transforming to a more resilient economy regardless of recent economic disruptions caused by COVID-19 outbreak.

The Ministers welcomed the Work Program for steady implementation of MIDV 2.0, which comprehensively compiles concrete cooperation projects submitted by Mekong countries, Japan and the Development Partners.

At the meeting, the business representatives reported the outcomes of the 13th Mekong-Japan Industry and Government Dialogue held online on 17th July 2020.

The Deputy Minister expressed his support on the implementation of MIDV 2.0 which will be an important guideline not only for tackling the economic and social challenges but also for fostering the economic resilience for similar crises in the future.

He also expressed Myanmar’s support to the endorsement of the Work Program and noted JICA’s continuous support for the existing projects of Myanmar in the Work Program particularly for capacity development regarding with the Myanmar Automatic Cargo Clearance System (MACCS) as well as the infrastructure development in the Thilawa area and the renovating the three existing bridges for enhancing the development of East-West Economic Corridor.

The meeting was attended by the Economic Ministers from Japan and Mekong countries, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Development Partners, business representatives and the officials from AMEICC Secretariat.
