The sixth coordination meeting on ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) 2025 implementation was held today, at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations in Nay Pyi Taw.
The coordination meeting was chaired by U Thaung Tun, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, Deputy Ministers, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Permanent Secretaries, Directors General and Central Executive Committee Member of Union Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry representing 22 work committees attended the meeting.
Current status of implementation of AEC Priorities Measures, the outcome of 25th AEM Retreat as well as the proposed Country Visit under the AEC 2025 Monitoring and Evaluation Framework were discussed in the meeting.
The Minister recalled that ASEAN had identified the priority measures for the implementation of AEC 2025, and that 170 Measure had been earmarked for 2019 for ASEAN as a whole. He noted that 35 Measures have been implemented by all ASEAN Member States in 2019.
Myanmar was scheduled to implement 166 Priority Measures in 2019. Of the 166 measures, 38 have been implemented as of June 2019. The Union Minister urged working committees to expedite the implementation of the outstanding measures.
Director General of Foreign Economic Relations Department, U Than Aung Kyaw explained the situation regarding the implementation of Priorities Measures and the details regarding the Country Visit Programme under the AEC 2025 Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.
The Chairmen and Secretaries of the 22 work committees of AEC 2025 reported on the current status and future work program for their respective committee.
