Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations U Thaung Tun participated in the 12th CLMV Economic Ministers’ Meeting (CLMV EMM) which was held via video conference at 8:30 a.m. today.

12th CLMV Economic Ministers’ Meeting was attended by the CLMV Economic Ministers and the Secretary General of ASEAN Secretariat. The Ministers discussed the CLMV SEOM Chair’s Report and the progress in the implementation of the CLMV Action Plan (2019-2020) and endorsed the CLMV Action Plan (2021-2022). The Ministers also exchanged views on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in overcoming the challenge.

In his statement, the Union Minister stressed that all programmes under the CLMV Action Plan 2021-2022 are in line with the requirements and priorities of the CLMV countries and highlighted the importance of capacity building of financial institutions, particularly with regard to public and private banks which are executing two-step loan programmme for MSMEs in the CLMV countries.

He welcomed the inclusion of “Pandemic Recovery Plan” in the Action Plan which coincides with the current efforts of COVID-19 Pandemic responses in the region and expressed confidence that the Pandemic Recovery Plan would complement existing regional integration initiatives.
He also informed the meeting of the measures taken by the Myanmar Government to contain the pandemic and ease the impacts on the country’s economy.

The meeting adopted the Joint Media Statement for the 12th CLMV Economic Ministers’ Meeting.
