Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, U Thaung Tun today welcomed H.E. Ms. Hilde Solbakken, Norway’s newly credentialed Ambassador to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

The Union Minister and Ambassador Solbakken exchanged views on a range of development cooperation initiatives, including in the areas of peace and democratization, natural resource management, and agricultural development. They shared the view that the current COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated socio-economic challenges in Myanmar as in other countries and underscored the importance of the need to work closely together.

They also discussed the potential for more Norwegian investment in Myanmar, including in the areas of oil and gas, and renewable energy.

The Union Minister provided a comprehensive update on the implementation of the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan (CERP) and preparations now underway toward finalising the new Myanmar Economic Resilience and Reform Plan (MERRP).

The meeting was also attended by U Bharat Singh, Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and U Than Aung Kyaw, Director-General of the Foreign Economic Relations Department.
